This week, Les Misérables fans celebrate the 30th Anniversary of the West End production in London. In NYC today, the Broadway production of Les Misérables had “Fan Day” in honor of this great milestone. There was a photo booth, free giveaways and discount tickets for fans to enjoy.

I recently saw the current Broadway production and it was absolutely amazing! They definitely revamped the show compared to the last revival. Ramin Karimloo was fantastic performing as Jean Valjean, I felt like I was melting every time he sang! Andy Mientus (Spring Awakening) and Caissie Levy (Hair, Ghost) were also great to watch perform. I have to say my favorite part of the show is when Jean Valjean and Javert quarrel when Fantine is on her deathbed and Jean Valjean wants to take Cosette away. What is your favorite Les Miz moment?

Check out these photos from the Fan Day event!

History of Les Miserables

Les Miserables... one of the best musicals of all time! On Broadway at the Imperial Theatre.

This musical is based off of the 1862 novel Les Misérables written by Victor Hugo. The musical was created by Alain Boublil and Claude-Michel Schönberg. The first opening night of Les Misérables was on Oct. 8 1985 at the Barbican Theatre. From then on, it has expanded worldwide with the show being on Broadway three times, two of which I have seen! It first opened on Broadway on March 12, 1987 at the Broadway Theatre later moving to the Imperial Theatre. The songs this show is known for include, “I Dreamed A Dream”, “Stars”, “One Day More”, and “Master Of the House.” Les Misérables has also been adapted twice for movies with the most recent being in 2012 starring Anne Hathaway, Hugh Jackman and Eddie Redmayne.

Listen to Ramin Karimloo sing “Bring Him Home”.

London’s 30th Anniversary Gala

On October 8th, the West End production of Les Misérables will have a special gala event for this historic milestone. Many current and past Les Miz performers will be at this event including Colm Wilkinson, Alfie Boe and Roger Allam. They are also donating the funds raised from the auction and ticket lottery to the Save the Children cause. I can’t wait to possibly see the highlights from this event!
