Last week, I saw the musical Finding Neverland on Broadway starring the amazing and talented Matthew Morrison (“Glee”) playing J.M. Barrie and Terrence Mann (Beauty and the Beast, Les Miserables, Pippin) playing Charles Frohman/Captain Hook.

This show is great to take the whole family to, from young to old. It combines the realities of life with the fantasy and magic of the story of Peter Pan. You feel like you are being transported into a different world which is what any great musical should do. The premise of the story is that playwright J.M. Barrie is stuck trying to figure out his next big play until he meets the Davies family. George, Peter, Jack, Michael and Sylvia Davis help J.M. Barrie rediscover his imagination, himself and create the story of Peter Pan.

Every part of the show was fantastic, the costumes, scenery, music and cast! It was one of the best musicals I have attended in a while. This show is filled with excitement, fun, imagination, romance and magic! The beginning scenes perfectly established and explained the background behind the story, leaving no room for confusing later on. I particularly liked the stage backdrop during the park scenes which combined the sky and trees and a partial map of Neverland. What a great way demonstrate J.M. Barrie’s imagination at work!

Of course, the most exceptional part of the performance was the music and cast. I was so excited to see for the first time both Matthew Morrison and Terrence Mann perform. They were both fantastic and funny along with the rest of the cast! The musical also had a wide range of songs from upbeat to more emotional. My favorite song from the show was, “When Your Feet Don’t Touch the Ground” sang by the characters J.M. Barrie and Peter Davies. Not only was it amazing with Matthew Morrison singing it, but it was a very touching, emotional and beautiful song. Listen for yourself!

The ending of the show was the perfect way to end such a great story. Sorry… I am not going to spoil the musical; you will just have to see it for yourself! I know I will see it again!
Overall, the show was the perfect combination of a great story, music and pixie dust!
