New York City FC Captain David Villa has proven himself to be the Best Major League Soccer Player since joining last year. He is a true athlete, leader and an overall great person! Here are our reasons why our #ROFAlum David Villa is the top MLS player!

The list goes on and on with accomplishments David Villa has achieved during his International Career prior to joining NYCFC. He has been part of seven teams since his career started in 1999; Sporting Gijón, Real Zaragoza, Valencia CF, FC Barcelona, Atlético Madrid, Melbourne City FC and Spain’s National Team.

He is currently Spain’s Top All-Time scorer with 59 goals in 97 appearances and was the first Spanish player to reach 50 International goals! He has also won the Copa Del Rey three times, was Spanish Player of the Year in 2005-2006, and won the FIFA Club World Cup in 2011! These accomplishments speak for themselves on how great of a player David Villa is.

4. Great Person off of the Field

David Villa does what he can to help others and aspiring athletes. While in Portland recently, he was spotted buying food at Starbucks to give to a homeless father and son he saw on the street.

This week, he had his first DV7 Soccer Academy in the U.S. which is aimed to help young girls and boys learn soccer. He also announced he will be teaching his DV7 Soccer Academy methods at Queens College’s Summer Camp!

Villa stated about his camp, “In this camp I want to teach the children the concepts and the values that I have learned throughout my soccer career. It is an unparalleled and special opportunity to be able to begin this project in such a diverse and soccer-passionate community as Queens.”

5. New York City FC Achievements

Since signing with New York City FC in 2014, David Villa has proved himself to be a great player and captain. Last season, he played in 30 out of the 34 games and led the team with a total of 18 goals. He was part of the 2015 MLS All Star Game and NYCFC’s MVP!

So far this season, he has been on the MLS Team of the Week 4 times, was the Etihad Airways April Player of the Month, and was named by SB Nation the MLS Player of the Week for Week 9. Things are clearly looking up for David Villa this season!
