The New York Yankees – who have been established for over 115 years – have had a long and illustrious history of talented players. 44 NYY players have been inducted into the National Baseball Hall of Fame such as Babe Ruth, Yogi Berra, Lou Gehrig and Joe DiMaggio! You also can’t forget the great Roger Maris who beat Babe Ruth’s record for most home runs in a season!

These players have been household names for many years, but what about the players who have recently become household names? From Derek Jeter to Mariano Rivera and Alex Rodriguez, let’s discuss the modern-day Yankees and who’s the BEST!

Opinions may falter and change, but statistics never lie. When we look at the Yankees’ stats over the last decade or so, it becomes clear who the star players are. Derek Jeter is an exciting player to discuss, as he played for the Yankees the entirety of his roughly 20 year career. Having played in the 14 All-Star games, and winning Yankees Player of the Year 5 times, fans were certainly sad to see The Captain retire.

Reggie Jackson is another great NY Yankees player who was with them for only five seasons. Even though he was with them for a short time, he earned the nickname ‘Mr. October’. The story behind that name is that during Game 6 of the 1977 World Series, he hit three home runs on three pitches to help clinch the victory over the Dodgers. That same year, he was the World Series Most Valuable Player. He was inducted into the Baseball Hall of Fame in 1993.

Bernie Williams is also considered a modern-day Yankee great. He was with the team 16 years and has the most Major League post-season RBI’s than any other player! During his career, he won 4 Gold Gloves, 3 rings and was the 96’ ALCS MVP! Bernie is not only known for his love of baseball, but his love for music. This music video at Yankee Stadium proves that!

Lastly, we come to one of the most popular Yankees, Mariano Rivera aka “Mo” and “Sandman”. Having played 19 seasons for the Yankees, he is of course a crowd favorite. He holds records for saving 25 games in 15 seasons and having an earned run average under 2.00 in 11 seasons. Interesting Fact: He has more saves (652) than Hall of Famers Rollie Fingers and Goose Gossage combined!

He was the part of the NY Yankees 96’ World Series Championship team which is currently celebrating its 20th anniversary! He is to be given his own Monument Park plaque on August 14th at Yankee Stadium. With this amazing event, it would be a great weekend to attend a game!

These player stats don’t lie. They all have had amazing careers with the New York Yankees! However, one stands out above them all… Mariano Rivera. With Mariano’s impressive career, and the fact that he is known as the ‘King of Closers’, he is truly the Best Modern-Day New York Yankee!
