Sorry Sia, But We’re Gaga for Lady Gaga
There’s no beating around the bush—Lady Gaga used to be nuts. We all remember her meat dress at the 2010 MTV Video Music Awards. But, she seems to have calmed down. I remember the exact moment I started to see Lady Gaga as a different star than she was before. At the 2015 Oscars when she performed the ‘Sound of Music’ tribute and was welcomed on stage by Julie Andrews, it was clear a different Gaga was emerging. Since then, she’s joined the cast of FX’s American Horror Story, retired her beef attire and come out with an album that sounds like nothing we’ve heard before.

Gaga is everywhere. You name it, American Horror Story, SNL and Carpool Karaoke with James Cordon, she’s done it all. She’s everywhere, and she’s thriving! Not many stars could step into season 5 of a preexisting successful television series, completely enhance it and then put out a No. 1 album later that year. Lady Gaga is doing it all and quite successfully.
Sia is everywhere as well, but that’s just in theory. She’s written dozens of songs for other artists like Beyoncé, Britney Spears, Shakira, Rihanna, Christina Aguilera, Lea Michelle, Carly Rae Jepsen, Jennifer Lopez, Kelly Clarkson, and even the legendary Celine Dion. Sia also did Carpool Karaoke with James Cordon to promote her new album earlier this year (wearing her wig to cover her face of course). Her new album, “This Is Acting” was released on January 29, 2016. Maddie Ziegler, the 14 year old dancer from Dance Moms appears in several of Sia’s music videos as a mini her so that Sia is nowhere to be seen. When Sia”performs” in concert, she stands in the corner singing while Maddie Ziegler dances.
They both have genuine and raw talent. Sia‘s This Is Acting is the sort of album you listen to while getting ready for a fun night out. Some of the album’s hits like Cheap Thrills can be found on Spotify’s Thank God It’s Friday playlist. One of my favorites from this album is Reaper, a track I came across while listening to Spotify’s Confidence Boost playlist. Sia has a knack for producing feel good pop tunes that are destined to find their way to top 40 charts, and make you want to dance all night long.
Lady Gaga’s ‘Joanne’ has a different sound to it. Gaga’s older music like ‘Just Dance‘ and ‘Poker Face‘ fall into a Sia category for sure- fun to dance to, but lacking substance. ‘Joanne’ displays real emotion. It sounds like a more real life Lady Gaga than we’ve ever heard before. My favorite track off of the album is ‘A-YO‘. It’s an upbeat song with country undertones that I can rock out to while walking to work. I prefer a baring it all Lady Gaga over an incognito Sia any day. Lady Gaga has made a name for herself by being wild and then coming back and proving herself as a talented artist. Sia can hide her face all she wants. Until she can step into television or film and then come out with a No. 1 album, I’m gaga for Gaga.
Maybe one day Sia will reveal herself and transform herself much like Lady Gaga did, because Lady Gaga’s new album is flourishing and her fans love it. Follow RideofFame on social media and share your thoughts on Sia’s ‘This is Acting‘ and Lady Gaga’s ‘Joanne’ with us on Twitter and Facebook!
