La La Land Doesn’t Stand A Chance

On Sunday all of the biggest stars in Hollywood will flood into 87th annual Academy Awards! We all saw La la Land swept the Golden Globes by storm and they have even more nominations at the Oscars? The academy loves films about Hollywood, you could say their chances are pretty high. But i think there’s going to be a bit more diversity at the Oscars than there were at the Golden Globes.

Emma Stone is a beautiful, talented gem. So I’m not going to take my predictions out on her for La La Land taking home all it’s Golden Globes. Emma Stone deserves to and will win the Oscar for Best Actress for her portrayal of Mia in La La Land. What makes Stone‘s performance in La La Land so strong is that she identifies with her character. At once she was just like Mia, going on audition after audition, receiving rejection after rejection. After a decade of starring in icon films like Easy A, Superbad and The Help, Emma Stone as earned herself  this Oscar.

Many may be thinking that the Oscar for best actor is going to Stone‘s counter, Ryan Gosling. He may have brought home the Golden Globe for his role but I’m not so sure that the Oscars will play out the same. My vote is for Casey Affleck for Manchester by the Sea.

Affleck has compared his Manchester by the Sea character to “a boiling pot trying to keep its lid clamped tight”. He portrays Lee Chandler, a janitor who is thrown back into his hometown to be the guardian for his nephew after his brother passes away. Writer-director of the film Kenneth Lonergan says its a strange and beautiful performance that Affleck gives. While Gosling gives a stary performance in La La Land, Affleck gives the audience the means to connect with his ordinary character. Casey Affleck is going to win the Oscar for best actor.

Fences is taking the Oscar for best picture. This spectacular story brought to life by iconic stars Denzel Washington and Viola Davis is based on the Pulitzer-winning play by the late August Wilson. The story focuses on the focuses on married couple Troy and Rose living in a segregated Pittsburgh in 1957. Viola Davis is nominated for best actress and Denzel Washington is nominated for best actor for their performances in this moving drama. Fences will absolutely beat out La La Land for the Oscar for best picture.

Make sure you watch the Academy Awards this Sunday on ABC at 7 EST.
