She is known for her loud, raspy voice and heavy New York accent. Joan is also known for her ability to poke fun at herself and other Hollywood celebrities.
With a distinguished career spanning more than four decades, Joan got her start in 1965 as a guest appearance on
The Tonight Show with Johnny Carson. Thereafter, Joan hosted her own talk show,
That Show with Joan Rivers, and was a regular guest on
The Tonight Show and
The Ed Sullivan Show.
She had a small role in the film,
The Swimmer (1969), and wrote a TV/movie,
The Girl Most Likely To, and directed her first film,
Rabbit Test. In 1989, Joan launched a new syndicated daytime talk show, went on to win an Emmy and a Tony nomination.
In 2009, Joan starred in NBC’s reality series
The Celebrity Apprentice alongside her daughter Melissa. She also published two critically received, best-selling books:

Since 2010, Joan has been co-hosting the E! show,

Joan & Melissa: Joan Knows Best? on WEtv. The series follows Joan moving into Melissa’s home while searching for a home of her own in California.
